Second Acts Consulting

Senior technical leadership for AI-enabled software teams

AI-assisted development can compress delivery cycles, but it also raises the cost of poor judgment. Architecture shortcuts, unclear ownership, weak guardrails, and unreviewed generated code can quietly become tomorrow's operational burden.

Second Acts Consulting helps organizations use AI to improve engineering leverage while preserving the things that make software durable: clear architecture, maintainable systems, responsible delivery practices, and sober technical decision-making.

AI can make software teams faster.
It can also make the wrong things faster.
  • Architecture guidance grounded in operational reality
  • AI enablement matched to product and risk constraints
  • Engineering leverage without quiet technical debt
  • Execution support for systems that need to last
Where We Help

Where senior judgment pays for itself

The highest-cost engineering mistakes aren't obvious until they've already compounded.

AI-assisted development is accelerating, but governance is thin

Teams are using AI tools, code generation, and automation faster than leadership can define review practices, quality gates, and risk boundaries.

Architecture decisions are getting deferred

The product works, but the system is becoming harder to reason about, harder to change, or harder to operate.

Delivery pressure is creating quiet technical debt

The team is shipping, but shortcuts are accumulating in places that will eventually affect reliability, cost, security, or customer trust.

Leadership needs a technical second opinion

Founders, executives, investors, or product leaders need clear tradeoffs before committing budget, roadmap, or team structure.

Services

Focused services for high-leverage outcomes

Engage on strategy, architecture, and execution—where senior judgment makes the biggest difference.

Fractional CTO / Technical Advisory

Executive-level technical guidance for founders, business leaders, and product organizations that need clear priorities, tradeoffs, roadmap discipline, and senior engineering judgment without adding full-time leadership overhead.

AI Engineering Enablement

Practical adoption of AI-assisted development workflows, coding agents, review practices, documentation patterns, and delivery guardrails. The goal is more leverage, not uncontrolled automation.

Architecture & Modernization

Architecture reviews, modernization plans, cloud and platform decisions, system decomposition, and technical decision support for products that need to evolve without becoming fragile.

Delivery Support & Technical Rescue

Hands-on support for high-priority initiatives, stalled projects, technical bottlenecks, refactors, integrations, and critical delivery moments where senior execution can de-risk the path forward.

Engagement Models

Start with the right level of help

Low-friction ways to begin. Start small, prove value, and expand as needed.

Technical Clarity Session

Founder, CEO, product leader

Focused review of a decision, roadmap, architecture, or AI adoption issue. Walk away with clear tradeoffs and a concrete path forward.

Advisory Retainer / Office Hours

Small company without CTO depth

Recurring senior technical guidance for teams that need ongoing architectural input, engineering accountability, or leadership support without full-time overhead.

AI Engineering Readiness Review

Teams adopting Copilot, Claude, or similar tools

Assessment of current tools, workflows, risk posture, policies, and team practices—with recommendations for responsible, high-leverage adoption.

Architecture Review

Product and SaaS organizations

System-level review covering scalability, reliability, maintainability, and roadmap alignment. Delivered with a written assessment and clear recommendations.

Project-Based Delivery

Teams that need execution, not just advice

Defined scope with concrete outcomes. Hands-on delivery for refactors, integrations, modernization initiatives, and high-stakes technical milestones.

Why Second Acts

Senior judgment, practical results

Not a slide deck factory. Not a staffing firm. A practitioner-led consulting practice built to help organizations make better technical decisions and ship systems worth owning.

  • 30+ years across SaaS, IoT, data, cloud platforms, and operational systems
  • Founder and operator experience, not just advisory theory
  • Comfortable at both executive and implementation levels
  • Bias toward durable systems, low bureaucracy, and capital-efficient delivery
  • Practical AI adoption with guardrails, not hype-driven tool chasing

AI can increase software velocity. Second Acts helps make sure the resulting systems are still understandable, secure, maintainable, and worth owning.
